This year, in kindergarten, we are starting the Handwriting Without Tears program. It is a great start for young children to learn how to write their letters. We work on pencil grip, starting position, posture, and focus. Each capital letter can consist of these shapes: big line, little line, big curve, little curve. We construct each letter with wood pieces and foam pieces. You can see the picture of Dylan constructing his letter E with one big line and three little lines.
The students are improving with their pencil grip and letter formation already! It is great to see! Please work with your child to make sure they are only using their thumb and pointer finger when writing with a pencil. The pointer finger is the driver, guiding the pencil along.
